IDS Charlotte Designer Showhouse

It's finally here! I can finally share it all with you! Did you know that there were 3 designer showhouses slated to open in Davidson just as the COVID-19 quarantine was put into place? So sad that you all weren't able to tour them. But now you can!!! We have a video tour that you can purchase and see every house. By purchasing the tour, you are directly benefitting Motor Racing Outreach, Hendrick Cares, The Dale Jr. Foundation and Operation Finally Home.

I worked with my previous design firm, New South Home, on the Southern Living Showcase Home built by Southern Cottage. We designed the family game room/bonus space. It was the largest room in the house and I can definitely say, the most fun!

The theme of the entire home was Modern Resort, so when we began designing the house, we set out to make it feel like an exotic Balinese getaway, but one that the whole family could enjoy. These were the inspiration images behind the design.

The room was divided into 3 zones... the TV zone, the game table zone and the bar zone. The room also serves as a hallway to get to 2 bedrooms on the other side so we knew that there had to be a perfect "wow" moment when you entered the room as well as having it easy to move through. So we put the game table in the center surrounded by beautiful chairs from Fairfield Chair and a stunning, custom beaded chandelier by Ro Sham Beaux. It had the desired effect and looked stunning as you come down the hallway and into the room.

For the TV area, a comfy couch was a must! In a resort, you want all of the comfort you can find so this had to be no different. The Nimbus sectional was the perfect option - it feels like sitting on a cloud! The TV was going on the wall above the fireplace so that wall was going to be the focal point. Skinnylap hung vertically and done in a cerused finish was just the trick. And the Frame TV meant that we could make the screen look like a piece of art. I just love that thing! A custom designed cluster of basket lights add to the Balinese flair. That is grasscloth wallpaper on the ceiling too! Never forget to decorate your ceiling.

And finally for the wet bar.... it had to be a focal point too as it was being set up as its own space. The deep emerald green tiles with inset light installation above the reeded cabinets done in the same finish as the skinnylap, makes this area pop. A custom ping pong table made by Rosewood Designs keeps the area as fun as the rest of the room. The same custom light cluster hangs over head to maintain symmetry in the space.

Now this is just the space that I was involved in... there are so many more to see! The rest of this house and the 2 other houses built by Augusta Homes and Plattner Custom Builders are available on the tour. Please check out the IDS Charlotte Showhouse website for more information. Many thanks to our media sponsor Charlotte Home Design and Decor for all of the assistance in making these showhouses a success. I hope you check them all out! Each one is truly amazing!
