Design Trends for 2021

Are you looking forward to 2021 as much as I am??? Not kidding… 2020 has been one for the record books. I’m sure we are all feeling that way. But there are plenty of home trends to look forward to. And I’m on board with all of them!

Green Velvet – We saw glimpses of this throughout 2020, but now it is here in full force! Green velvet sofas, pillows, drapes….. green velvet everywhere! In shades of all kinds, but deep emerald is my favorite.

Bench Cushions You may be thinking, what’s so special about a cushion that goes on a bench? But a bench cushion is a style of sofa cushion. Sofa seat cushions come in different styles. There’s a 3 seat loose cushion sofa, a 2 seat loose cushion sofa, a tight cushion sofa and a bench seat cushion sofa. The bench cushion sofa is a single, long, loose cushion. That means when you sit down there is no falling through the cracks between cushions! Yay! It also has a nice tailored, yet casual look.

Little Martini Tables – We saw so many of these at Market and I just couldn’t get enough! These small sized end tables, large enough to perch a beverage and maybe a paperback book, were found scattered throughout showrooms. My favorite has to be from Vanguard… it can be upholstered AND have nailhead accents!

The Color Mauve – I may be dating myself here, but the color mauve was all the rage about 35 years ago. I remember my mom wanting “mauve” in the bedroom when we were building our house when I was a kid. Mom would be happy, the color is back! We saw lots of it in varying intensities throughout showrooms. I have to say, I’m loving the modern version which is more subdued and leaning a bit more to the lilac side vs. the peachy side. (pardon the cellphone photo)

So which trend is your favorite? I'm thinking the bench cushions are mine. I just love the look! But those martini tables are fantastic too!
